How is this different from other Pranayama practices?
This style of Pranayama activates the fight or flight experience. It drops us in to the reptilian part of the brain where our primal fears and reactionary survival instincts live. It’s not intended to wallow or dwell in our past; we access this state to flush out the stuck emotions and/or traumas from that aspect of our cellular memory.
The majority of this work is done lying-down.
How should I prepare?
Come as you are. Krishna recommends avoiding food or water 1 or 2 hours prior to the event and coming with an intention. Participants cannot be on any mind-altering substances unless otherwise instructed by their physician.
What do I need to bring?
Something to support your body and soften the floor.
The following are optional, but recommended unless otherwise specified in the event details:
- Yoga mat
- Bolster or pillow
What happens after?
Every experience is different. Directly following the work most feel a sense of calm, expansion and deeper connection.
After the session you want to be mindful of what you have just gone through. For next couple of days you want to be extra kind to yourself, avoid large loud crowds, drink more water then you normally do and do physically over stress your body.
When you leave remember you’re not the same person as you were when you walk in. So when you leave and go about your day-to-day life be aware of this. For most of us the choices we make in our day-to-day life, truly do not serve our highest. So be open to new possibilities, for instance when you are driving home and you normally make a right turn and you feel to go left instead, try going left see where it takes you. We will never really know our future steps in life so be open to fallow your heart you will be pleasantly surprise where or whom you end up being.
How often should I practice?
There is no ‘right’ answer here. Some people have a life-changing experience in their very first Breathwork & Shamanic Journeying session, and feel no need for another session. Some people, if they are in an active or intense healing process, might choose to do Breathwork & Shamanic Journeying regularly – sometimes as often as twice a month. Many people feel that Breathwork & Shamanic Journeying gives a boost to their regular form of therapy, so they will do a Breathwork & Shamanic Journeying session perhaps every three months, or whenever they feel blocked, and then explore the insights from that session in the following months with their therapists. Other people consider Breathwork & Shamanic Journeying to be their primary form of therapy, or might attend classes once or twice a month and a workshop every couple of months to relieve stress and maintain contact with their inner life. Many Breathwork & Shamanic Journeying participants find that it opens the door to a particular spiritual path, one that feels authentic to them, and they continue Breathwork & Shamanic Journeying to speed up their spiritual path.
Then again, for others, Breathwork & Shamanic Journeying is their spiritual practice.
